Metropark Platform Rehabilitation

Background
Approximately 4 million NJ TRANSIT and AMTRAK riders use Metropark Station each year. NJ TRANSIT recorded close to 6,000 boardings each weekday at Metropark in 1999 and Amtrak ranks the station 20th in ridership out of the 300 stations it provides services to nationwide. These high ridership levels warrant sound platforms and passenger waiting shelters designed to accommodate customers using this key regional station. NJ TRANSIT is pursuing reconstruction of the platforms at this site.

Project Scope
The Metropark Platform Rehabilitation project will construct new, longer and wider high-level platforms, stairs, climate-controlled passenger waiting shelters, windscreens, and canopies. Project will also improve existing lighting, communication systems and signage.

Project Cost
$49 million

Current Status
Design work is currently 60 percent complete.

Next Milestone
Platform design work will be completed in the spring of 2006.

Benefits
The rehabilitated platforms will provide a more comfortable facility for NJ TRANSIT and Amtrak passengers. Passengers will board and de-board via new improved platforms.
