Irvington Bus Terminal Renewal Project

Project Complete

Background
The Irvington Bus Terminal is a major passenger and operating facility, complete 10,000 riders each day, and provides riders with the opportunity to make a wide variety of connections. Currently, there are 451 bus arrivals and 444 bus departures from the terminal each weekday with an additional 232 arriving trips and 243 departing trips operating along Springfield Avenue adjacent to the terminal.

Project Scope
The project entails replacing the existing passenger terminal with a new, larger building, wider bus lanes, revised layout of the parking lot and improved pedestrian links in coordination with the Township of Irvington (owner), NJDOT (pedestrian safety improvements) and Essex County (owner and operator of adjacent roads).

Project Cost
$5.3 million

Current Status
Construction was completed in June of 2005.

Next Milestone
None.

Benefits
The new terminal will provide improved bus movements and traffic flow along city streets. A new station will support increased local interest in revitalizing downtown Irvington.
