NJ TRANSIT Intends to Include Study of MOM Direct Service to New York in the DEIS

NJ TRANSIT is continuing to develop a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the Monmouth-Ocean- Middlesex rail project. An analysis of direct service to New York via the proposed Trans-Hudson Express Tunnel (THE Tunnel) for each of the MOM alternatives will now be included in the DEIS. This will result in an 18-24 month extension of the DEIS. In March 2005, NJ TRANSIT conducted a round of Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) and Community Liaison Committee (CLC) meetings, where key preliminary findings from the DEIS were presented. Below is a summary of the key findings. A more comprehensive list of the key findings may be found in the CLC presentation, which is available for download on the "Documents and Products" page. If you would like a hard copy of the presentation, please send us an e-mail to and provide your name and mailing address. These key preliminary findings will be revised to incorporate estimates of ridership and cost of one-seat ride service.

To help keep you informed of the DEIS progress and to give you additional opportunity to provide comments and questions before the DEIS is published, NJ TRANSIT will continue to hold public outreach events over the next 18-24 months. Following a mandated Federal review process, the DEIS will be formally issued and NJ TRANSIT will conduct hearings in each of the three counties to solicit comments from the public.
